Timing of Interviews

I have what is possibly an odd question (This may be the 'type A' in me coming out to play).

If there is a program I'm really interested in, do you think it matters when I interview if several dates are offered pretty far apart?

For instance, is it better to interview later in the season so I've had more interview experience (at the risk of being tired of the interview trail)? Also, I would think the later one interviews, the better the program will remember them as well.

Is that nonsense or is there some possible truth to it?

Yes, there is definitely truth to this and this is what I alluded to in an earlier post (can't remember which thread). I talked about how programs will move interview dates around from year to year as a strategic response to things that they learn from their match experiences. I'll leave it up to you to decide how you would want to approach this...BUT I would try to attend as many interviews as possible.

That being said, there are certain advantages and disadvantages to why a program may interview early or interview late and vice versa for the applicant.

I think you could play it either way.

Perhaps you'll be fresher earlier in the interview season?

Or perhaps you'll be more experienced and the program will remember you later in the interview season?

I think it all evens out, you'll stand out at the program where you're meant to match! 👍

I like that way of thinking. I hope it works out that way for all of us. The later date for one of the programs is actually still fairly early in January, so I think I'll go that route.
