Well, I'm a 4th year who is 1/2 way thru a radiology rotation and decided that it's definitely something I could/would want to do for a career. My question is...is it too late? I mean the second 1/2 of November... I could get an application out and change the personal statement in a few days, however am afraid that even if I did that, that several/too many program deadlines will have closed (some I noted closed on 11/1 per scutwork.com).

Is there any way to call these programs and plead for them to consider my application...?

Am I wasting my time in applying this year? If so, what would you think the possibilities are of doing a prelim/transitional year and trying to get a PGY-2 spot?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Wow, I think that would be extremely tough, unless you have stellar scores. I am pondering the same thing, or at least wondering if I should add more rads programs to my ERAS application.

But, as most things end up coming down to, if you have the $ to apply, the worst they can say is "No thanks."

I don't have much $ left though... 🙁

Hi guys,

I was just in the same boat as you guys so I have some friendly advice. I too decided very late in the game to apply for radiology, late being mid October this year. Lots of programs have already offered interviews and therefore was not able to give me a spot. Some programs I apply too are barely adequate, yet rejected my applications. My boards are high and I'm AOA. It's going to be extremely tough now to get interviews anywhere as the small programs offered interviews early and large programs have just issued them. Try it if you want but I think you'll probably just waste your money unless you have reallly good connections somewhere. Don't add new apps either. I made that mistake too and wasted about 90 bucks that I could have spent on grocery. Take my advice for what it's worth though.

I would say that you should do a ty or year of im. Talk to the the pd at your schools radology program. Maybe you should do a prelim year at a program that you like. Start contacting programs now. With your numbers, you will be able to find a spot.Market yourself as a very strong student who say the light late.

p.s.

If Radiology doesn't work out for you, think about Anesthesia.

I wouldn't waste the money this year. If you're certain you want to be a radiologist, do a prelim med or transitional and apply next year.

As an alternative, you could call several programs that you'd be interested in and see if they have any slots open at all. This late in the game and with Thanksgiving, then RSNA....it's likely too late for just about every program out there. My program has given out all the interview spots already, but there may be exceptions but I would certainly call before wasting the money to apply.

Good luck
