Hi everyone,
I just wanted to post here to complain about a recent experience of mine, heh. Here's the deal: I received an invitation to interview at Indiana about 3 weeks ago (even though my application was complete back in November). Since I had only had one other interview (and got waitlisted), I was very pleased to get another shot at admission. I called, but they said the last times they were interviewing were within the next two weeks. Now, I'm in a location where short notice flights are very expensive, so I asked about the possibility of a phone interview. They said they would look into it, so, in the meantime, I was able to find some relatively cheap flights and planned to come to the Indiana. However, Indiana then told me that I could have a phone interview, given my circumstances, and they would get back to when and what time they would call as soon as possible. So I opted for that instead of scheduling a face to face interview like I had planned, happy to save several hundred bucks.

Fast forward two weeks later. I still hadn't heard back from them about a definite day and time my phone interview would be, even though I had contacted them several times. Finally, today, I get a letter saying that, upon another review of my application by the admissions chair, they can't interview me for admissions, but they can interview me for a spot on their wait list. But I'd have to come to Indiana for that.

Totally lame. Now, my only chances of admission this year are one more interview and the hope of getting off of SUNY's wait list.

That sucks! Good luck and don't worry, things usually work out! 🙂
fingers crossed for you!

Thanks 🙂 I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well.

Thing is, I didn't even know they could withdraw interviews like that.

wow .. i didn't think they could do that either.

that really sucks 🙁
are phone interviews common???

and yah i wish the best of luck to you!! :-D you can do ittttttt.

ouch. sorry to hear that. hope all works out well for you... = |

From what I know, I wouldn't say phone interviews are standard (or recommendable after my experience). So I wouldn't really consider it an option. I know Indiana doesn't usually even offer a phone interview, but I guess my circumstances (as in not living anywhere in North America) were unusual enough to warrant the suggestion of one.

Hey, I'm actually not optometry but I was bored and thought I'd check out some other forums 😛 (I'm veterinary). Anyway, I'm pretty sure that if they offered you and interview they can't withdraw it like that. It would be different if you declined the face-to-face interview and they told you phone interviews would not be available. Do you know who you talked to? Maybe you should try calling the school to sort this out. I'm not sure if you would want to (it would pretty much determine that you wouldn't ever get in there) but I believe you could take legal action against them for offering the interview to you and then withdrawing it without notice. I'm really sorry to hear that they did that to you! I really hope you get into optometry school! GOOD LUCK :luck:
