Transitional Year vs. Preliminary Surgery

Is anyone familiar with Newton Wellesley Hospital transitional year program? I am trying to decide between doing a transitional year there or a preliminary surgery year in a community hospital (adv. and disadvantages). Any insights?

Newton-W TY is closer to a true prelim med year. They work you pretty hard, although I doubt they work you harder then a prelim surgery year. Its also pretty far outside Boston-proper so if you want to live in the city that's out. What are you going into?

The surgery prelim will work you harder, but if you get really good at sutures, lines, and other surgery procedures it might be well received by the IR programs.

In terms of ranking a program, what should weigh more: the reputation of the program vs. the faculty of the program (people)? Thanks!

For a prelim? The number of weeks of vacation and months of electives. Nothing else will ever matter.
