Does anyone know if Woodridge or Calumet or Homewood IL are area nice areas? I'm trying to look for nice areas to live next year. I know I'm a little early, but I just want to get a good idea of where to look.

Thanks

I know that Woodridge is nice (but expensive). I also know to stay away from Roger's Park.

Otherwise, I'm not sure. If you find out about a nice area, let me know.

I found a pretty nice place in Woodridge (30 min from ICO by bus/train). I plan to take public transportation instead of my car just to avoid parking problems and traffic. They are town houses (two story) and allow dogs (I need a place which does). There is also a pool! They have 1 bedroom (900 sqft), 2 bedroom (1200 sqft), and 3 bedroom (1300 sqft).
The 1 bedroom is $769/month, 2 bedroom is $959/month, and I'm not sure about the 3 bedroom. The prices on the link below are higher than they are, I called them.

I have been looking on www.rent.com

That's a little steep for me I think. My husband doesn't have a job there yet and I don't know what's going to happen. I'm getting kind of worried about it. But i'm glad you've got it all so together!!!

I'm worried about the price as well. I need to find a place which allows dogs and has enough room for a 100lb wolf! It adds to the price.

I haven't started calling places in Philly yet -- I'm just curious, do you get any love for saying you're a ICO student when you call about rental pricing?

Some of the people did the, "Oh, that's great." But that is about it. I have not called any place that is right around ICO. I could not find any info for those places on the web. Maybe some of them will show some love, probably not. I plan to look at those places in Febuary when I head back to Chicago to go to a teacher job fair. Hopfully my "wife" will get a job right on the spot, it happens sometimes. So far, the shortest drive will be 30 minutes, that is with out traffic (add 1 to 2 hours). The place I mentioned above is 30min by pubilc transportation.

WoW! And I thought MY house had a serious hairball problem. 😉 She's adorable and I'm sure very snuggly! In my experience the bigger the dog the more they want to lay on top of you! I could see how finding a place to accomodate that large a dog would be hard. I had a hard time in CA with my 60 lb dog. I also felt bad having to keep him in an apartment but in No Cal we couldn't afford to rent a house. 🙁

But, now I live at home and he has another doggie here to play with and he amuses himself running up and down the stairs.

Very cute doggie pics! Thanks rpames! And tell your wife she's lucky.. any guy who'll roll around on the floor and wrestle with his doggie is a keeper! (at least in my book) 😉

rpgames,

Look into Whiting, Indiana. This is where I live. A minute to the Skyway (tollroad into Chicago) and 15minutes to the White Sox stadium. The benifits of Indiana are cheap rent, no sales tax on groceries, cheaper gas, etc etc etc.... Also, Whiting is adjacent to Lake Michigan. Two blocks and I'm at the beach. You can find all types of houses and apt to rent. As well, trains are nearby; Shouthshore and Amtrak!!!! I think the Southshore has a station close to ICO. Although, I'm not for sure. Do a google search and find the online website for The Hammond Times. Upon searching for house/apt. anything that says Whiting/Roberstdale is basically the same location. Good luck...

When you said Calumet, did you mean Calumet City or Calumet Park? Homewood is very, very, very nice (I live about 10 minutes away), but mucho expensive--it's a "professional" city. I always thought Woodridge was much further away from ICO... Well, good luck with your search!!🙂

I'm not sure which Calumet, I'll look it up later. I looked at Woodridge last weekend when I was in Chicago and the apartment was really nice. The lady at the apartment said her daughter when to law school at IL Tech, which is right next to ICO. It took her about 35 min to get there. That is not to bad. I'm heading back in two weeks so I will look at another place if I have time.
