I just found out I got AOA, but I already submitted ERAS in early September when I didn't know my AOA status. I know that ERAS can be updated with AOA info, but I am wondering if this is enough. Do programs typically redownload apps just for AOA update? Are programs notified that a person's app has been changed, thus signaling them to download it again? Or should I contact each program individually to let them know? This seems like a horrible undertaking, but I'll do it if others who have matched think it's worthwhile.

First, congrat on your accomplishment! It's really a wonderful honor. Second, I recently updated the profile section of my ERAS to reflect this information as well. As far as I can tell, most of the programs I applied to downloaded the new info almost as soon as I updated it. I don't think it's necessary to email every single program to let them know of your AOA status. Furthermore, it might be impractical if you are applying broadly.

Congrat again and (hopefully) see you on the interview trail.

Yeah they'll download the stuff again so don't worry, just update your eras.

that is a huge relief, as I did apply broadly.

thanks, and congrats to you as well sweatybrain. maybe we'll be coresidents some day.

Can anyone explain to me how to update the AOA status once being accepted. I just found out about my acceptance today. I took a quick look at the ERAS site, and is it as simple as just changing the drop down box in the "account" tab, or do you need to put an AOA ID number (like the one on the LOR cover sheet) into the program?

Thanks!

As far I know you just change the drop down box. I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to by the AOA ID on the LOR cover sheet? The only ID number on my LOR cover sheet was my AAMC number.

Are you an osteopathic student? That could be the AOA you are referring too?

Yeah the "AOA ID" on the LOR cover sheet threw me off initially.
That's kinda what mohderm was talking about... it's for Osteopathic students; it's their equivalent of our AAMC ID nummer. That has nothing to do with the AOA honor society.

What you need to do is update your Account Info on ERAS. Programs will keep downloading our files every day or so... so any changes you make will be downloaded by the programs. This is still way early so I doubt the programs have printed out all your info at this point.

If you have any questions or don't know what I'm referring to as far as Account Info on ERAS, please PM and I can send you a screen cap or something.
