CARES Act Provider Relief Fund

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I saw it on FB as well. Wondering if private anesthesia groups have also started receiving this.

A little off topic but I thought I’d mention this

This is a crisis that the govt ultimately caused widespread economic damage through its own actions then offers a loan to businesses to deal with it. But should it be considered a loan?

:eyebrow: yeah that's not a leading question at all, with the answer you already think you know not even hidden in a bold assertion in the first sentence. C'mon, man.

Why are you in denial? The local govt incurred economic damages when they shut down the country. Seems pretty disingenuous to offer “relief” in the form of a loan.

What makes me roll my eyes is your implied (well, not even implied, it's right out there) belief that this is all the government's fault, every bit of it, from the virus itself not being contained, to any and all side effects of containment efforts. The idea that the government OWES you anything beyond a competent response to contain the pandemic.

Under the surface of your comment is the very wrong, very annoying, very unscientific yet widely held (mostly "conservative") opinion that this pandemic is Just The Flu, or perhaps Not Even As Bad As The Flu, or maybe even as far out there as This Is The Government Seizing Power And Suspending The Constitution And Deliberately Destroying The Economy To Usher In A Totalitarian Regime But At Least I Have Eleven Pallets Of Chili In My Barn.

So. C'mon, man. The government doesn't owe you **** because its response (which was arguably TOO restrained) to a global pandemic put a temporary dent in your income or stock portfolio.

Deny that.

I believe this particular program is not a loan, but a grant.

Deposited in our account this morning. Different than the PPP SBA Loan.

It’s a grant. You have 30 days from April 13 to attest your fee for service business qualifies and it’s forgiven

There’s so much wrong with this it’s not even funny. You actually seem enraged rather than mildly annoyed by really no reason to be.

The government responded to a crisis and in its wake cause a massive economic damage. Seeking damages would be appropriate.

“Dent in a stock portfolio?” Tells me everything I need to know

If anyone is in denial about the economic gravity, it seems to be you. The fact that you offer nothing more than a screed full of assumptions about my view of COVID makes you look like a complete fool.

Get some rest man and think about it a little more.

Thank you for actually shedding light on this!

Instead of treating it like deposition as some other posters here seem keen to do.
You totally deserved that. I guess according to you, we should have just kept up business as usual. Even though we see that social distancing is actually helping.
Guess you are young and vibrant and could handle Corona unlike the Old or unhealthy.

I guess you and pgg subscribe to the same foolish school of thought where seeking economic damages equates to inaction on COVID. Really what a solid group of halfwits.

So resort to calling us names. Yeah, wonderful. How mature.
I have been called worse. So whatever.

BTW @pgg and I often don’t see eye to eye. But I don’t thing we’ve ever called each other halfwits or any other names.

Let me know when you actually have a point to make.

incredible. very proftable hospital!
Well that’s using up its entire rainy day fund. I wouldn’t expect the state to allow us to stay independent if cash to cover expenses reached just two weeks. Things will have to turn around by 6/1

Cash reserves plus Accounts receivable(which to my mind run about 2-3 months behind) - it can soften the blow but a lot of even these big groups in anesthesia and rads...it’s quite tight

Again, you just don't seem to get it. I'm not enraged, I'm exasperated that people actually think this way.

Your notion that you're somehow entitled to be compensated by other taxpayers is ridiculous. Remember, the government doesn't have anything to give to you without first taking it from others, or borrowing against future tax receipts from others. I don't owe you a thing and neither does anyone else.

You speak of "damages" for which you think you are entitled compensation. Yeah. Go ahead. Try to take the federal government to court so you can prove negligence and recklessness that has wronged you. See where you get. The only way our governments has any liability to its citizens for even the most incompetently suboptimal response to some force majeure is the next round of elections to put new people in charge.

We can debate the wisdom or necessity of the federal government throwing a couple $trillion of stimulus around, whether it's checks directly to people who are out of work, or grants or loans to help businesses stay open and make payroll for a couple of lean months. But for you to act like you're entitled to compensation from me and other citizens because government action to contain a pandemic put a dent in your income or stocks? C'mon, man.

Wouldn't be much point in having a discussion board if everyone always agreed on everything. 🙂 I've never met either you or him.

But one of you is going to NYC right now to be of service to our fellow Americans, and the other is earnestly claiming the country owes him something right now. Food for thought.

You know what you COULD do? You could actually earn money by using your skills in an area of need, such as NYC, and get paid for using those skills. You are doctor. This is a pandemic. Doctors are needed and those skills are being paid for.

It is my belief that no physician should receive a dime of money from the government unless they are actively caring for patients instead of sitting at home watching Netflix and waiting for elective knee scopes to start again.
