We are looking for hard-working, self-motivated individuals who are looking to build their CV for residency applications. All prospective applicants must be eligible for an unrestricted Pennsylvania Dental license. We are accepting one non-categorical resident to start ASAP for academic year 2025-June 2026.

We are a full scope OMFS program, with procedures including head and neck oncologic and reconstructive microvascular surgery, orthognathic surgery, management of facial trauma, dentoalveolar surgery, implant surgery, and TMJ surgery.

Non-categorical interns are treated the same as our categorical interns with identical responsibilities. Responsibilities include:
  • Coverage of our main hospital in Center City Philadelphia (Level 1 trauma) and our satellite hospital in Northeast Philadelphia (Jefferson Torresdale, Level 2)
  • Coverage of our outpatient clinics located in Center City, Torresdale, Navy Yard and Bryn Mawr (extractions, biopsies, pre-prosthetic surgery, sedations, OR pre/post-ops, hospital follow-ups, outpatient H&N procedures)
  • Involvement in OR cases in Center City, Northeast Philadelphia and occasionally Methodist Hospital (located in Center City). We operate every day of the week.
  • Rounding on inpatients and managing their care at our Center City and Northeast Philadelphia locations
  • Taking primary call). Home-call (non-trauma and trauma). Trauma is split with ENT every other month. Call is only taken for Center City, not Methodist or our Northeast Philadelphia Hospital location.
  • Involvement in all TJUH OMFS didactic activities
This is a paid position with full benefits through TJUH. Additional information regarding salary or benefits may be found on the TJUH Resident Information page (Resident Salary, Benefits & Other Information).

We have continued to enhance our didactic curriculum which includes an oral pathology course, monthly journal clubs, weekly case presentations and weekly lectures from residents, faculty, and guest lecturers. This position is an excellent opportunity to prepare you if you are applying to the OMS match in 2026. You will be working daily and directly under the supervision of multiple oral surgeons and will directly participate in surgical cases.

If you are interested in this position, please contact our Program Coordinator Ms. Joanna Schultz @ [email protected]. You must be attending or have graduated from an accredited US or Canadian dental school (or an advanced placement program). If qualified, we will set up a Zoom interview with our Program Director in the coming days.

Thank you in advance for your interest in our program!

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry is still currently offering one non-categorical internship position for the 2025-2026 academic year.

All applicants must obtain an active PA dental license.
Non-categorical interns have the same responsibilities as categorical interns in the program.

Opportunities:
I. Interns will have the opportunity to perform the full range of dentoalveolar procedures, benign pathology, implant placement, bone and soft tissue augmentation, consultations/treatment planning and managing medically complex patients.
II. Covering the outpatient sedation center, completing more complicated procedures under moderate/deep intravenous sedation, and assisting with the sedation itself.
III. Taking dental and facial trauma call at Temple University Hospital in North Philadelphia (Level I Trauma Center). The call is busy, but is split with Plastics, ENT, and a separate 4 Year OMFS program, so it is not as frequent, offering interns more time for studying.
IV. Managing hospital inpatient care and prerounding/rounding.
V. Participation in all didactic activities, including attending weekly lectures, case presentations/case review, grand rounds, and scholarly activity.
VI. Second and First-Assisting on OR cases at the hospital. Given the nature of the program with one resident per year and incomplete coverage at times; there will be opportunities for the interns to first-assist with the attending on larger cases, offering a unique experience at the intern level.

Salary/Benefits: Non-categorical interns are paid through the Dental School. Terms to be discussed.

Please contact Dr. Pooja Gangwani at [email protected] if you are interested or have any questions.

Mount Sinai / Jacobi Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship Opportunity

July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027

We are now accepting applications for internships to begin next July.

The Mount Sinai Hospital / Jacobi Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program annually offers several OMFS internship positions. These one-year positions are designed for the candidates that are genuinely interested in pursuing an OMFS residency and would like to experience a full scope OMFS residency.

Duties will include: clinic coverage, on call coverage, ER, OR and inpatient management of OMFS patients. Interns will also attend all didactic lectures and conferences. Our interns will work side by side with our OMFS residents and attending surgeons. Our OMFS residency accepts 4 residents per year (we have 2 6-year positions and 2 4-year positions annually).

There are three distinct intern tracks:

Jacobi Medical Center / North Central Bronx / Mount Sinai West

Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital (NCB) where the intern will spend the majority of his/her time, encompasses a busy Level 1 Trauma Center in the eastern Bronx. Additionally, our interns will spend approximately 2 months in Manhattan at the Mount Sinai West Hospital. At Jacobi and NCB we have 2 busy outpatient clinics. Our department (GPR, pediatric dentistry, and OMFS) manages over 35,000 out-patient visits per year.

The Mount Sinai Hospital / Elmhurst Hospital Center

The Mount Sinai Hospital is on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Elmhurst Hospital Center is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The interns will divide their time between these two sites. Both sites provide substantial in-patient and out-patient oral and maxillofacial surgery experiences.

James J. Peters Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Bronx VA)

The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is a tertiary care 378 bed in and outpatient facility located in the west Bronx that serves the health care needs of veterans in the New York Metropolitan area. The Bronx VA treats approximately 26,000 veterans annually and has an on-site general practice residency in dentistry that is sponsored by the Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Department of Dentistry.

Our interns are an integral part of the OMFS team. Many of our past interns were successful in matching with programs immediately following completion of the internship. Successful candidates will be bright, self-motivated and eager to become part of a dynamic OMFS team. Additionally, they must have completed at least a PGY-1 GPR or AEGD before the start of the program. The OMFS internships are fully funded positions. Salaries start at the PGY-2 level.

Interested parties should email their CV to our internship director ([email protected]), Dr. Kerry McEntee.
