I believe this has not been started by anyone yet. If it has I apologize in advance. Thought it would help future applicants to know who people ranked and why. I will start by pointing out that I am an a soon to be graduate from a Caribbean medical school and for that reason ranked all my categorical programs first (only had five prelim interviews and one offered a prematch so I no longer counted that one as a viable option). If people respond and agree that this helpful I will add my reasons for ranking programs where I did.

List is a bit skewed due to my couples matching. OSU and Indiana are higher than they would be otherwise. I probably would have hard a harder time deciding #1 between Michigan and Rush. Also, Cincinnati is a tremendous program, everyone was awesome and I came away very impressed, but a little more stroke/NICU than I necessarily wanted.

I can answer your question. I went on 19 interviews all over the country. Miami stood-out for a few reasons:

1) Energy. The faculty, residents, coordinators . . . they all seemed sincerely excited about the program. There was a desire for growth that permeated all people involved in the program. When I interviewed at "top 5 programs", the attitude was pretty much: "We are bad ass. We know we are bad ass. Join us and fall in line if you want to be bad ass." At Miami, the attitude was this: "We are good, but we want to be great." I felt like if I went to Miami, I would be a creator. I think that most of the people there feel this way. Faculty from "top 5 programs" all over the country are moving down there in mass, because it seems like there is more growth potential there than anywhere else I visited.
2) People. The residents at Miami really seemed like one big family. You can tell they really care about one another. Extremely friendly and down-to-earth.
3) Location. Its Miami. If you like spending your free-time looking at gorgeous people on the beach in 80 degree weather, where else are you going to go.
4) Interventional. Not that its my thing, but they seem to have a very Neuro-friendly interventional track.
5) Sacco. Dude is intense. You feel like he's burning a hole through your soul when he eyes you during that interview. But you can tell that he's got big plans for the program, and that you can be a part of it if you fit-in and are a mover.

Really, I didn't have such a great impression of the Miami neuro program. I thought Sacco was trying to build up the program too quickly, sometimes with unqualified faculty, and other times, at the expense of the residents. Wasn't his research stroke epidemiological studies? I never really knew his motivation, he seemed really shifty. The PD was strange as well, trying to keep tabs on all the interviewees (even at the dinner). The main hospital is so convoluted and had mostly written notes / paper based, and the support staff was pretty bad -- even for county. The Miami weather is very much overrated and, in fact, has one of the highest rainfall rates among major US cities. Then, there were some residents who seemed genuinely friendly -- and probably hand chosen by the geeky PD -- but when I approached many of the others outside the confines of the interview, they were pretty cheeky, superficial, or rude. In the end, fellowship is what matters, so I ended ranking them nonetheless, but really towards the end of my list. Just my two cents, I'm sure some will agree and others not. Good luck!
 
About Miami: I loved the program, but didn't care for the city. I ended up ranking it pretty high because I felt the program was superb, but I would prefer to match somewhere with cheaper cost of living.
 
I thought the program was great... However, I just did not like the city and felt like I didn't fit in there. I did not necessarily want to live in a big city and this pushed Miami down towards the bottom of my list. I felt that the residents that I met were really nice, and even though the PD came to dinner, I felt like he was a pretty nice guy. All in all, I felt like Miami was growing and had a lot of potential to be one of the best programs In the Southeast, if not the country but in the end I felt it was not a good fit for me.

Sacco has brought to Miami,....Columbia University and Miami has been considered for very long NYC sixth borough...

Of course, not everyone likes top notch research centers nor beautiful cities with 80 degree weather, beautiful people and great night life. I am thinking why not Iowa? or Oregon? or Nebraska?
